Bob Renfro, K4OF, having noted dead and rough-tuning spots in his
Century 21 VFO, discovered that Ten-Tec sells a rebuild kit for
restoring normal operation to deteriorating Ten Tec permeability-
tuned VFOs (Omni, Triton, Argonaut, etc). I contacted Larry
Worth, the Service Manager at Ten Tec. Larry confirmed the
existence of the rebuild kit, but cautioned that the rebuild job
is not for the faint-of-heart. Ten Tec will be happy to do the
service for the less experienced and will sell the kit to those
with service experience. I promptly ordered one for my OmniD. The
kit consists of bearings, shafts, bushings, the appropriate
lubricant and a detailed set of instructions. The price is $15.00
plus $2.00 shipping and handling. Contact the Ten Tec Service
Department at Highway 411 East, Sevierville, TN 37862, (615) 453-
7172. - de KA1CV, Ed Hare, ARRL Laboratory Engineer.
