Hello, everyone! VERSION 0.2.5b-BETA

This is uwm - the ultimate window manager.

uwm should now be a complete window manager, conforming to X-standards.
We suggest using TKDesk along with it until first versions of ugs, the ultimate
graphical shell, will be released.

Implementation of the ude desktop library has finally started.

ATTENTION! source tree and installation procedures have completely changed.
also the default installation behaviour: uwm no longer installs into
a private directory but GNU-compliant into several dirs.
Please read INSTALL.UDE and INSTALL for more information on this.

We have also changed the language support to gettext. We currently have support
for english, spanish and german, if you want to translate ude to another
language, just tell us and send us your .po file. for information on how to use
the new internationalisation please read ABOUT-NLS.

Of course bug-reports are very welcome, so please, if you find a bug, help
us improving uwm and send an e-mail with detailed information about and how
to produce the bug to:

   arc@ude.org

or simply use our message-board at http://www.ude.org

Oh, and there is still a lot to do to make not only a new window-manager, but a
complete desktop environment out of ude, so if you have got a little time and
there is something you always wanted in your computer-working-environment, but
you are still waiting for it: Don't hesitate to join the crew and make your
ideas work by putting them into ude.

O.K. now that the commercial break is done, let's talk a little bit about
forthcoming versions of UWM, UDE and what we are heading to:

Our aim is a really good useable and agreeable desktop environment which is
both fast and useful. It also will be easily configureable not only to make it
prettier but also to make the usage fit to your personal needs. Programming of
the filemanager has already started, it will be qite like TkDesk, a good, quick
and practical (HTML-based?) Help-system and other desktop functionalities are
also planned to be included as standalone modules but we still need some pro-
grammers for all that.

UDE - get used to it.

By the way: To use all features of UWM you need a 3-button-mouse since you
sometimes have to press two buttons simultaneously. A 'detailed' users manual is
included into this distribution. We also had several bug-reports from people
using 2-button-mice and ChordMiddle. The 'bugs' could be isolated to
ChordMiddle and the X-servers who act a little confused when there only is
a 2-button-mouse but we are checking for two (out of three) buttons to be
pressed simultaneously. However, a 2-button-mouse will be sufficient to get a
first impression of uwm.

For those of you who are wondering about it: UDE is released under GPL.

See you there!

If you have suggestions, questions, bug-reports or simply want to discuss
ude-related topics with other ude-users, please use our message-board on the
page (we have now even made it to switch to a non-registration-board!). We take
a look at the board regularly and use it as inspiration for forthcoming
versions. You can also use our mailing-list for discussions or suggestions.
